Too on the Nose: Fantastic Four: First Steps & AI Marketing
Fantastic Four: First Steps…
First off, Marvel Studios has finally debuted the first teaser trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps and that it looks nothing short of, well, fantastic. You can boo me all you want cowards, I have seen what makes you cheer.
You can watch the trailer here:
There’s so much to love about this from the mid-century aesthetic to the wonderful treatment of Ben Grimm. The Thing is the most important part to a successful Fantastic Four film. He has to be convincing and charismatic because Ben Grimm is the heart and soul of the team because Ben Grimm is Jack Kirby.
The movie looks great. They even gave us an actual hint of the plot without being obtuse about it for months with GALACTUS DEVOURER OF WORLDS! In full headdress, no less! I was fine with the Cloud Galactus, but this is so cool!
…Into Crap
This looks great and I am all in on the Fantastic Four: First Steps, and then Marvel Studios goes right out and steps in the excrement of the art world by putting out an AI Generated art poster.
For it’s part, Marvel denies using AI but it is apparent with the use of three fingers and just ugly look to the poster. For a company that is stacked with talented artist like Alex Ross, who could illustrate a poster along these lines from something like his Marvels work, this AI slop feels like a kick in the face of any fan. It immediately detracts from what looks to be a fun and refreshing Marvel film and a nice bright spot in this blighted hellscape that is the United States. I just wish Marvel Studios wouldn’t just screw it up this badly.
This is just too on the nose for Marvel managing to screw over artists, yet again,
